February is Black History Month in The United States and Canada. Black History Month had its beginnings in 1926 in the United States. Begun in part by African-American Historian, Carter G. Woodsen, it was celebrated for one week during the second week of February. The first celebration of Black History Month occurred at Kent State University in February of 1970. Six years later, the expansion from a week-long celebration to a month-long celebration was recognized by the U.S. government.
February 14 is Valentine’s Day in the United States. Though not always in February, many countries celebrate Valentine’s Day, including: Sweden, Spain, Japan, and India. Valentine’s Day was first established in the year 500.
Abraham Lincoln’s birthday is February 12.
George Washington’s birthday is February 22.

But first, we celebrate Groundhog Day! Groundhog Day is a popular tradition celebrated in the United States and Canada on February 2. It derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day sees a shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat to its den and winter will persist for six more weeks, and if he does not, due to cloudiness, spring season will arrive early.
