How can you serve your community in celebration of Martin Luther King Day?

Martin Luther King Day is a federal holiday held on the third Monday of January. It celebrates the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an influential American civil rights leader. He is most well-known for his campaigns to end racial segregation on public transport and for racial equality in the United States. He became one of the greatest Social Activists the world has known.

At 35, he became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize. His birthday became a National Holiday by an Act of Congress in 1983. It is a time when the nation pauses to remember Dr. King’s life and work, but also to honor his legacy by making the holiday a day of community service, “a day on, not a day off.”

In today's Use Your Imagination, write about how you can serve your community in celebration of Martin Luther King Day.
