Baird's Tapir

The Baird's tapir is named for the American naturalist Spencer Fullerton Baird, who traveled to Mexico in 1843 and observed the animals. The Baird’s tapir is native to Central America an northern South America. It’s even the national animal of Belize! Baird's tapirs average up to 6.6 feet in length, not including a little tail that’s 2.8 to 5.1 inches long. They average about 3.9 feet in height. Adults can weigh can range from 330 to 880 pounds. In captivity, adults can live to be approxi-mately 30 years old.
