All About Michigan

Did you know the painted turtle is the official reptile of Michigan? But what’s more, is the painted turtle was given this designation thanks to a group of 5th graders from Niles, after they discovered that Michigan did not have a state reptile and then wrote letters to the Michigan legislature! Today, the painted turtle is the only turtle still commonly found in Michigan of the nine or ten native species that live in the state.
