Dudley STEM gets active with cardio drumming
Battle Creek Public School’s Dudley STEM elementary students are getting active and moving to the music with cardio drumming. Cardio drumming combines exercise, music and fun as participants drum to the beat while doing squats, jumps and other body movements. It is a growing fitness trend that Dudley STEM students are enjoying and experiencing. Cardio drumming uses exercise balls stationed in plastic bins and drumsticks, to drum out the beat on the balls.
All of these materials were purchased for the students thanks to the work of their physical education teacher, Ann Swinehart, and the Operation Fit and the Building Healthy Communities grant that was obtained as a result of healthy initiatives being done in the school.
Operation Fit is collaborative effort of Bronson Battle Creek, Battle Creek Community Foundation, and Regional Health Alliance to fight childhood obesity. Through grants, the development of wellness committees and Smarter Lunchrooms initiatives, Operation Fit is working with schools to establish a school atmosphere in which daily, healthy choices are a norm for students.
