Songkran Water Festival 2017

By Taylor Cotter

Do you like to participate in water wars during the summer? If so, you might be interested to learn about the Songkran Water Festival in Thailand. Every year they have a water war that is held on a couple of the hottest days of the year. The idea for the Water Festival began because it gets really hot there! To participate people in Thailand bring buckets, hoses, and water guns that they use throughout the whole day. Chiang Mai is the main spot where the water festival takes place. Many people participate in Chiang Mai, and they have a lot of fun.

If you decide to travel to Thailand to join in this fun festival, make sure you don’t break the rules or you will be disqualified. For example, make sure you play with clean, cool water. You can’t throw ice cubes at anyone. I know you probably think that rules would ruin everything, but they have never really had to disqualify anyone. Everyone has a great time the whole day. Participants line the streets right away in the morning, and they are ready for the fun. If I were you, I would pack your bags and go to Thailand!
