Albuquerque International Balloon Festival 2017
By Katie McDonald
Have you ever heard of a balloon festival with over 500 balloons? You may be wondering how it is even possible for 500 balloons to go up in the sky. Well, it is possible. Every year in October the skies of Albuquerque, New Mexico shine with bright balloons for their annual Albuquerque International Balloon Festival. It started with just 13 balloons in the festival in 1972, and now it is one of the biggest balloon festivals in the world with over 500 balloons and 1,000 pilots. Can you imagine the size of 54 football fields put together? Well, if you can that size is the size of the festival’s 78-acre launch field.
In addition to all of the balloons, they also have many fun games and different activities you can do including the Balloon Glow, the Night Magic Glow, the Special Shape Rodeo, and much more. This Balloon Festival is also called “the world’s most photographed event” because more than 25 million pictures are taken at the festival. Gas balloons became a part of the balloon festival in 1981. As you can see in the picture, there are many different colors and designs on the balloons. Also, to make the balloons even more exciting some balloons are animal shaped. Would you ever consider attending the festival?
